I don't have enough focal length with the RedCat 51 to do this target justice, but after a month of trying to squeeze something out of the data I just need to post and move on. I will be revisiting this target when the new scope arrives (Stellarvue 102XT).

Sh2-308 is the cloud of ionized hydrogen that was shed from the Wolf-Rayet star EZ Canis Majoris, which is currently in a brief pre-supernova stage of evolution. When it does go nova the resulting shockwaves and stellar material will subsume the nebula.

I absolutely love the pictures of this target I see on Astrobin and it is one of my long-term astrophotography goals to produce my own amazing version.

Title: Another look at the Dolphin Head Nebula

Description: This revision is actually an entirely new set of data but still using the RedCat 51, so I didn't want to create a new image.

This is a set of 58x 600s subs, total integration time of almost 10 hours, which was made possible by using my relatively new HEQ5 Pro mount. I wanted to push the RedCat as far as I could on a small faint object, and I'm pretty happy with how the 10 minute exposures turned out.

Now it's time to put this target to bed until next year when I can target it with my new Stellarvue SVX102T and mono camera.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
